01. Orienteering

The orienteering activity at Day Zero was the lead up to students unlocking combination locks on the boxes of the tricorder materials.  They needed to follow their maps in order and find three numbers for the code.

We found compasses at Rays Outdoors for about $11 - but we are pretty sure you could get them cheaper online with enough lead time.  The ones with the clear plastic base plate are good for orienteering.

We started with a simple training activity, where there were instructions for using the compass and map, and then they had to follow the training map to get to the main oval.
